I mesi passano e mi muovo da Melbourne, compro un'auto e mi dirigo a nord, nel Queensland, dove lavoro per tre mesi come cuoco nell'ultimo paesino civilizzato, Cooktown. Da lì mi muovo ancora, sempre con l'auto, e approdo a Perth, nel sud-ovest, dove rimango per altri due mesi. Qui ricevo la conferma di Peppe, un amico del mio paese, che intende passare tre settimane a Melbourne; ci organizziamo perché la sua vacanza coincida con le mie ultime tre settimane di permanenza nel Paese, approfittando soprattutto che il volo di ritorno in Europa ce l'ho proprio da lì, per cui vendo l'auto e ritorno volando a Melbourne.
Giustamente, Peppe vuole visitare qualcosa al di fuori della città e non mi viene piano migliore che noleggiare un'auto e visitare prima il parco nazionale di Grampians e poi percorrere la mitica Great Ocean Road, per la terza volta. Mai esperienza fu migliore. Dormendo nel mezzo della tratta abbiamo avuto la possibilità di assistere sia al tramonto che all'alba, con colori illibati e paesaggi che in Europa non avevo ancora ammirato.
Proprio prima che il sole ci lasciasse siamo passati da questo faro, così ben tenuto da essere impossibile percepire che avesse la sua storia.
Se l'anno trascorso in Australia è stato senza dubbio il migliore della mia vita è anche perché quel territorio conserva dei paesaggi e dei luoghi così differenti tra loro che sembrano essere fuoriusciti da un mondo surreale, ed è per questo che vi consiglio fortemente di visitare la terra dei Koala e dei Canguri.

It's 2014 and for some months I moved to Melbourne, Australia.

I hear so much about the Great Ocean Road, a huge road built to accommodate the military returning from the First World War, so much so that I decided to visit it with my former partner, booking a two-day organized tour. It is a road that runs along the Antarctic Ocean, in the direction of Adelaide, in a karst coastline that offers an infinity of stacks.

I liked it the first time that, after two months, I decided to go over it again, this time alone and for a day.

The months pass and I move from Melbourne, I buy a car and head north to Queensland, where I work for three months as a cook in the last civilized village, Cooktown. From there I move again, always with the car, and I land in Perth, in the south-west, where I stay for another two months. Here I receive the confirmation of Peppe, a friend of my country, who intends to spend three weeks in Melbourne; we organize ourselves because his holiday coincides with my last three weeks of stay in the country, taking advantage especially that the return flight in Europe I have it right there, so I sell the car and fly back to Melbourne.

Rightly, Peppe wants to visit something outside the city and I do not have a better plan than renting a car and visiting the Grampians National Park first and then walking the mythical Great Ocean Road, for the third time. Never experience could be better. Sleeping in the middle of the route we had the opportunity to witness both the sunset and the dawn, with unruly colors and landscapes that I had not yet admired in Europe.

Just before the sun left us, we passed by this lighthouse, so well kept that it was impossible to perceive that it had its own story.

If the year spent in Australia was without a doubt the best of my life it is also because that territory preserves landscapes and places so different from each other that they seem to have escaped from a surreal world, and that's why I strongly recommend you to visit the land of Koalas and Kangaroos.
