It is Sunday of last week when I visit, with my friend Stefano, the summer residence of the Spanish royal family, El Escorial, located in a town near the mountain range in Madrid; it's cold and the first season snow flakes fall, but it's not a problem if you have a good jacket.
The entrance fee is 10 €, a relatively high price, but for how much art and history there is inside that castle is worth it. As in many other Spanish realities, the paintings of Italian artists are many, from Titian to Tintoretto to Lotto to Negretti to Veronese. Below the ground there is the most important part, the burial chambers inside which kings, queens and infants of the Spanish dynasty are buried, since the birth of the nation. It is a triumph of grandeur.
Going up the main corridor, Stefano draws my attention to a door that leads to an internal cloister, is a dated door that preserves a large hole in which to penetrate a key of the era; he proposes me to take a picture and the idea attracts me, so I turn on the camera, I kneel and take the first photograph: too black, so as to eliminate it immediately. The second is blurred and I think the task of making a good photo is difficult, even because it would be a normal garden, what would be so special? I recompose myself and I'm deleting this picture, when I realize that the blur of the photo hides a statue, so full of curiosity, I kneel again, I spy with only one eye and I realize that the charm of that statue deserves more commitment and I have to try again to take the picture of the day, until I bring home a good result.
At the fourth attempt the mission is accomplished, the photo is there and the title seems obvious: Peeking from a lock.
